why?
A dryer sheet is nonwoven polyester coated with quaternary ammonium softeners and fragrance. Polyester has no natural decomposers — compost fungi and bacteria lack enzymes that cleave it — so the sheet emerges from a finished pile looking nearly new, minus the chemical coating it released into your soil along the way.

Trash them — used sheets have no recycling stream. If the waste bothers you, wool dryer balls replace hundreds of sheets, and a few brands sell certified compostable plant-fiber sheets that are the only real exception.
